The queues in the Ikea food hall used to say it all. They may of not doing anything else (although their fry ups were great value for money). Everyone loves their meatballs & the sauce it came with, again even though you wouldn’t expect it this is a good food memory of mine.
The sauce is so simple and made from just 6 ingredients. We’ve recently popped in to pick up some bits that were on offer in our local Lidl and whilst there happened to pick up a pack of German meatballs which gave me the idea of having a go at the IKEA sauce. So here goes, all made under 8 minutes, it will take me longer to write this than make it !!!!
Ingredients-
40g of butter, 40g of plain flour, 300ml of beef stock, 150ml of beef stock, 2 tsp of light soy sauce & 1 heaped tsp of Dijon mustard.
Method –
Melt the butter in a pan.

Once the butter has melted add the flour and whisk for 2 minutes.

Whisking the butter and flour mix will create a roux.

Add the beef stock…..

Followed by the double cream….

Then the soy sauce & Dijon mustard.

Whisk everything together. Cook this out until it starts to bubble and thicken. It will thicken naturally due to the roux you created at the start.

I served mine up with creamy mash potatoes, cabbage, a few green beans, obviously the cooked meatballs which take 10 minutes in the oven and the most important part- cranberry sauce ❤️
A little tip….when you’re ready to plate up, add the meatballs to the sauce prior to serving along with the cooking juices that have leaked during the roasting process.

Thank you for reading my ramblings if you have.
